Marjorie Neville Collaborative Piano Scholarship (for accompanists)

 

Purpose: This award is established to offer opportunity to the piano student who prefers accompanying to solo playing.  Being a successful accompanist is an art.

 

Applicant must be:

  1. age 17-24, and may not enter if you turn 25 prior to Feb. 23, 2008
  2. a senior in high school, or enrolled in a college or university
  3. must be an Ohio resident enrolled in an Ohio Federation of Music Clubs affiliated junior music club, college, or university or be an individual member of the OFMC.  One may become an individual member by sending $15.00 to: Richard Rootes, 8860 Colton Street NW, Massillon OH 44646-1616,

  4. a native citizen of the United States of America, or must have received naturalization papers (either the entrant or his/her parents)

The $1,000 award will be determined by the adjudicators, whose decision will be final.  Unless high standards of performance are met, no winner will be declared.

 

Audition:  Applicant will be required to play two pieces from different historical periods of intermediate and above difficulty.  The music should be close in total, to 15 minutes duration.   The accompanist should bring along the soloist with whom s/he has been working and a copy of the music for the judges (no photocopies).

 

The applicant may be asked to sight read a piece of the judges' choice.

 

 

  1. Auditions will be held on Sat., February 23, 2008, at the Robeson Recital Hall, Central State University, near Dayton, OH.
